Responsibility Change for the RFC Series

Abstract

In RFC 9280, responsibility for the RFC Series moved to the RFC
Series Working Group and the RFC Series Approval Board. It is no
longer the responsibility of the RFC Editor, and the role of the IAB
in the RFC Series is altered. Accordingly, in Section 2.1 of RFC
2026, the sentence "RFC publication is the direct responsibility of
the RFC Editor, under the general direction of the IAB" is deleted.

PROBLEMRFC 2026 says RFC publication is the direct responsibility of the RFC Editor under the general direction of the IAB, but RFC 9280 moved that responsibility elsewhere.
MECHANISMRFC 9282 deletes that sentence from Section 2.1 of RFC 2026.
WHY IT MATTERSRFC 2026 no longer says the RFC Editor is directly responsible for RFC publication. Responsibility sits with the RFC Series Working Group and the RFC Series Approval Board, and the IAB's role is altered.

§1What RFC 9280 Changed

In RFC 9280, responsibility for the RFC Series moved to the RFC Series Working Group and the RFC Series Approval Board. It is no longer the responsibility of the RFC Editor, and the role of the IAB in the RFC Series is altered.

RFC 9282 exists because an older document still said otherwise.

The people in charge of the RFC books changed. The old rulebook still named the previous boss.

§2The Deleted Sentence

Accordingly, in Section 2.1 of RFC 2026, the sentence "RFC publication is the direct responsibility of the RFC Editor, under the general direction of the IAB" is deleted.

That is the only change the document makes. It states no replacement wording.

One sentence is erased. Nothing new is written in its place.

§3IANA and Security Considerations

The document has no IANA actions. It also presents no security considerations, which fits a change that only removes a statement about who is responsible.

Nothing needs to be updated in any list, and nothing about safety changes.
