RFC 2731 ("Encoding Dublin Core Metadata in HTML") Is Obsolete
RFC 2731 on putting Dublin Core metadata in HTML is retired because the Dublin Core initiative took over the work.

RFC 2731 ("Encoding Dublin Core Metadata in HTML") Is Obsolete
Abstract
This document obsoletes RFC 2731, "Encoding Dublin Core Metadata in
HTML", as further development of this specification has moved to the
Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI).
Status of This Memo
This document is not an Internet Standards Track specification; it is
published for informational purposes.
This document is a product of the Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF). It represents the consensus of the IETF community. It has
received public review and has been approved for publication by the
Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG). Not all documents

1. Introduction
[RFC2731] defines "Encoding Dublin Core Metadata in HTML". Newer
specifications published by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative
(http://dublincore.org/) over the last decade, in particular
"Expressing Dublin Core metadata using HTML/XHTML meta and link
elements" ([DC-HTML]), have obsoleted this work.
Note: Implementers of RFC 2731 should note that DC-HTML introduces
a new requirement with respect to the use of the "head" element's
"profile" attribute.
2. Security Considerations
This document is of administrative nature only and therefore there
are no security relations related to it.

§1What Changed
RFC 2731 defined "Encoding Dublin Core Metadata in HTML". Over the last decade the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) published newer specifications, in particular "Expressing Dublin Core metadata using HTML/XHTML meta and link elements" (DC-HTML), which obsoleted that work.
This document obsoletes RFC 2731 because further development of the specification moved to the DCMI.
The group that invented the idea now writes its own up-to-date instructions, so the old sheet is retired.
§2The Work Being Retired
RFC 2731 is titled "Encoding Dublin Core Metadata in HTML". The memo describes it only briefly: it was superseded by newer DCMI specifications published over the last decade, so the IETF no longer maintains a competing description.
The newer reference is the DCMI document "Expressing Dublin Core metadata using HTML/XHTML meta and link elements", dated August 2008.
Two groups had written instructions for the same job. Now only the inventors keep theirs.
§3Note for Implementers
The memo adds one practical warning. Implementers of RFC 2731 should note that DC-HTML introduces a new requirement with respect to the use of the profile attribute of the head element.
The document is administrative only, and its security section says that there are no security relations related to it.
If you followed the old sheet, check the new one. It asks for one extra thing.
