Network HOST Questionnaire
(Reference RFC tl106; NIC Note 5776) ,
Attached is a summary of the responses to the referenced questionnaire.
The questions involving terminal support were of interest to m~bers
of the User/Service Site Protocol Committee in its considerations of TELNET.
The summary points out some of the key differences between line-at

§1The Questionnaire Summary
RFC 112 is a one-page cover note by T. O'Sullivan of Raytheon Data Systems, dated April 1, 1971. It is not a joke despite the date. It attaches a summary of the responses to questionnaires referenced as RFC 106 (NIC Note 5776).
The questions about terminal support were of interest to members of the User/Service Site Protocol Committee while it considered TELNET.
Someone asked every site the same questions and wrote the answers on one big chart.
§2Line-at-a-Time or Character-at-a-Time
The summary points out some of the key differences between line-at-a-time and character-at-a-time (or both) in handling terminal support. The differences matter most for control characters.
The RFC says the information may prove useful as background for TELNET implementers. The chart is not reproduced in the plain-text version, which points readers to the PDF.
Some computers wait until you finish a whole line before looking at it. Others look at every letter as you type. The chart shows which sites do which.
§3Corrections Welcome
The author asks that anyone who finds an error of interpretation in a site's answer let him know at the address given, so that he can update the chart. The address is Raytheon Data Systems in Norwood, Massachusetts.
If the chart got your answer wrong, you can write to the author and he will fix it.
